By acquiring Zach Charbonnet and Kenny McIntosh, the Seattle Seahawks have bolstered their running back talent. These two rookies seem to be making a lasting impression on both the coaches and the team during the offseason.
This comes just after the Seahawks picked up Kenneth Walker III back in 2022 as a second-round pick. Walker came in firing as a rookie rushing for over 1,000 yards. With Seattle boasting exceptional running back talent in Walker, this presents an opportunity for him to show his new rookie teammates how it's done.
Although new RB's may not have been seen as a priority for Seattle, they are looking to bolster their offense even further, and it looks as though they may be a hard team to stop from running the ball in the coming season.
Charbonnet and McIntosh got picked up by Seattle in the second and seventh round of the 2023 draft, and according to head coach, Pete Carroll, they seem to be in a good spot with their choices.
"Yeah, they're catchers for sure. Kenny [McIntosh] is a really natural athlete, you can just see it in everything that he does. Zach [Charbonnet] does everything well, he just is a complete ball player," Carroll said. "I know Ken (Walker III) has been really impressed with those guys too, and that's for a guy to say stuff about his young teammates like that. He's come out and been outspoken about it, that's a statement. So they look really good.”
Walker has been vocal in his support of his new teammates. After concluding a remarkable rookie year, Walker seems to be excited with the opportunity of being something of a mentor to his new rookie teammates and sharing his secrets of success with the two. This bodes well for the Seahawks, who now have a trio of competitive backs to choose from.
Charbonnet, a highly-coveted prospect out of UCLA, brings a balanced skill set to the team. He's proven himself as a between-the-tackles runner and an effective receiver out of the backfield. McIntosh, a former Georgia Bulldog, shines as a receiver and could also be a valuable asset on special teams.
If the Seahawks decide to keep both rookies on their 53-man roster, they'll have some impressive depth at the running back position. Charbonnet could be a reliable option on third downs and short-yardage situations, while McIntosh could contribute as a returner and in the screen game.
Overall, the addition of Charbonnet and McIntosh to the running back room is a promising sign for the Seahawks. With these competitive rookies in the mix, the team's offense has the potential to be even more dynamic in the upcoming season.
